The Anglican Bishop of the Diocese of Madi and West Nile, the Right Reverend Charles Collins Andaku, has expressed his displeasure at the manner in which Christmas celebrations have moved away from true Christ-centeredness and towards what he called it “immorality”.
According to him, Christmas is becoming more and more costly for many people and often leads to untold suffering due to so much anxiety.
“The secular way of celebrating Christmas such as excessive drinking, trans parties and ungodly nightclubs, sexual immorality, sometimes excessive socializing, ungodly competition in dressing, sometimes traveling abroad, “Thefts and murders, speeding due to unnecessary excitement have often left many problems such as gender-based violence, divorce and early marriages,” the bishop said on Friday while speaking to reporters at the headquarters. diocesan of Mvara, in the town of Arua.
Bishop Andaku said Christians should be compassionate in their celebrations towards people and friends, forgive those they have never forgiven and offer special gifts to God.
“We should celebrate it with Christ in our hearts, we should celebrate the true meaning of Christmas in a divine way. The true meaning of Christmas is to bring joy to the home,” he stressed.
Mrs Loyce Drijaru, a Christian and resident of Arua town, said: “If you go to the market now, you will realize how much money people spend on clothes. It is unfortunate that some people will not even go to church on Christmas Day but will dress elegantly, drink a lot and entertain themselves all night.
She said Christmas should bring love, unity and joy to families, but it is the time when people break up within families due to unmet demands.
The diocese boasts this year of ordaining 30 clergymen and women, confirming 9,458 Christians and 14,612 giving their lives to God through baptism.
