Recently, Donald Trump warned those gathered at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference that “The worst is yet to come» if Biden wins another term. He said: “Four years ago, I told you that if the crooked Joe Biden were in the White House, our borders would be abolished, our middle class would be decimated and our communities would be plagued by bloodshed, chaos and violent crime,” he said. followed by “We were right about everything.”
Trump believes he prophesied and it came true! He further warned: “If Crooked Joe Biden and his henchmen win in 2024, the worst is yet to come. Our country will sink to unimaginable levels. He also warned Americans that Biden would use law enforcement as a weapon to drive out conservatives and people of faith as well as religious Americans.
Trump’s warnings were numerous and sounded a death knell for the American people, especially Christians and other believers. How seriously should these warnings be taken? How have believers behaved during this first term of Joe Biden at the national and international levels?
Recently, Abraham Cooper and Frederick A. Davie, President and Vice President of the USCIRF, respectively, commented: “There is no justification why the State Department has not designated Nigeria or India as a country of particular concern, despite its own declarations. reports and declarations. USCIRF calls on Congress to convene a public hearing on the State Department’s failure to follow our recommendations.
This indicates that religious freedom is currently under serious threat. There are numerous reports of abuse of Christians’ rights under Joe Biden’s rule. Do we think the situation will improve during his second term?
By now, it is clear to everyone that Donald Trump has many moral failures. Some have described him as a racist, others as a corrupt leader and some call him a liar. But if he wins his party’s primary, between him and Biden, who do you think will create an environment conducive to the growth of Christianity? Or do we pretend our faith doesn’t matter when it comes to politics? Honest answers to these questions will guide your decisions in November.
I know Trump has his weaknesses, but he did something that endeared him to Nigeria. On September 8, 2020, our then President, Muhammadu Buhari, said: “I believe I was about the only African among the least developed countries that Trump invited and when I was in his office, only me and himself, only God is witness, he looked me in the face and said: ‘Why are you killing Christians?’
It takes a man who believes in the sanctity of life and loves humanity to ask such delicate and sensitive questions. I must confess that I was touched by this question which showed that someone cares about the survival of Nigerian Christians. Now that no one is asking this question, we have seen how Nigerian Christians are being recklessly massacred on a daily basis.
This is not the time to be politically correct, nor is it the time for interfaith criticism. Evangelicals also need to know that now is not the time to discriminate or pretend they can do it alone. This is the time to gather together all who call on the name of Christ. All should pray and work hard that all will be free to practice their faith when religious freedom is restored first in America and then throughout the world, including my own country, Nigeria.
When one of you says, “I am a disciple of Paul,” and another, “I am Apollos,” are you not acting like the people of the world? (1 Corinthians 3:4) A house divided against itself will not stand (Mark 3:25). I am not forgetting the fact that Trump and Biden claim to be Christians, but it is not their claims that should matter to American Christians, but their dispositions.
Which of the two will promote the course of the Christian faith? Let all American believers vote to have the freedom to serve their God without intimidation or harassment.
