Actor Alan Ritchson argued in a recent podcast appearance that the Christians obey God’s commandments because “heaven is coming” to Earth.
Ritchson, best known for his role in Amazon Prime’s Reach series, had discussed the subject of religion with late night host Bill Maher, during which Maher stated that Christianity became popular because its message was that “everything gets better in the afterlife.” Maher noted that some have argued that this is not a good message because it tells humans that “the strong don’t win.” Ritchson agreed, arguing that the true message of Christianity is that the kingdom of God is coming to Earth and that “our restoration” will take place on Earth.
“So if you truly follow the path of Christianity, you will be a good steward of this place because this is where heaven is,” Ritchson said on Maher’s. Random club podcast.
Maher, an atheist, later joked that the podcast episode Ritchson was featured in would “explode on the Internet” if Ritchson converted him to Christianity at the end. Ritchson, who has called himself a Christian in the past, responded to criticism he faced that a Christian should not star in the film. Reach television series earlier this year. The series, which is an action thriller series about a retired military police officer fighting to clear his name from the law, features a “morally ambiguous” main character, who Ritchson says is similar to many characters in the Bible.
“So I think it’s laughable when people criticize me for playing characters that aren’t saintly,” Ritchson said in the YouTube video. “That’s not my job, and I don’t think God only cares about telling those kinds of stories.”
