Pastor and author Max Lucado believes that there is a deep “uniqueness” at the heart of the Christmas story that sets it apart from any other theological paradigm.
“The uniqueness of the Christian faith is that we believe in a God who came to us before we came to Him,” Lucado recently told CBN Digital. “All the other theologies, philosophies, all the other approaches to God say, ‘Do this and maybe God will notice you or accept you.’ It’s a relationship based on performance.
But when it comes to Jesus and the Christmas story, the preacher said we very literally celebrate a God who chose to come to us before “we even knew we needed him.”
The always thoughtful Lucado prepares for the release of “Max Lucado, Because of Bethlehem”, a special event that will be released in theaters nationwide from December 5 to 7. This live concert promises to bring families “the magic and wonder of Christmas” as the preacher shares his own holiday memories, a Christmas message and music from artists like Evan Craft, Matt Maher, Matthew West , Anne Wilson and others.
Watch Lucado discuss the power and importance of the Christmas story:
It’s an event that Lucado believes will deeply inspire people to think more resonantly about the true meaning of Christmas, telling CBN Digital that he sees the Lord’s mode of arrival as particularly relevant.
“He was not here in the form of a volcano, or lightning, or an angry prophet, but He was here in the form of a baby, He was here in the form of an embryo, He was here in the form of a seed,” he said. “And he couldn’t have condescended more, he couldn’t have gone further, and not only that, he was born in humility, not born in a castle in Rome, or in a villa in Greece, but he condescended to the house of a simple carpenter.
Beyond this, Lucado noted Jesus’ decision to live in “obscurity and anonymity” for the first 30 years of his life, highlighting Jesus’ humility and grace as other powerful differentiators of the Christian faith.

“He is the image of grace, God entering our world, finding us, seeking us,” he said. “And so I never tire of this story. I love telling it. I love hearing it. I love looking for new ways to share it.
And the “Because of Bethlehem“The theatrical experience is just a new way of telling this age-old story – one that he says comes at a time when the world desperately needs the truth.
“Given what the world is going through right now, don’t we need the reminder of a God… who is coming for us? said Lucado, calling the state of the world “fragile.” “I think the world is hungry.”
