Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene said Christian women should dress “nicely and femininely” in order to avoid tempting Christian men.
Greene, a Georgia Republican who is a staunch supporter of the former president Donald Trumphas long faced backlash from both Democrats And Republicans because of the comments about Christianity. She was attacked for selling “Proud Christian Nationalist” T-shirts and sayings during a 2022 Turning point United States event that Christians should “live our lives and vote as if we were nationalists“.
In a social media post Thursday, Greene criticized conservative Christian women who she said are “selling themselves short and not being good role models by conforming to the sexualization of women around the world,” noting that her statement might be an unpopular opinion.
“If you are conservative and a Christian, you know that you don’t have to express yourself in a sexual way and you know that you are attractive by dressing well and femininely, and that you can be beautiful and modest at the same time” , Greene wrote to X. , Previously Twitter.
She continued: “Men will respect you more and have a much higher regard for you than just as a sexual object for gratification. It is also good not to tempt your fellow Christians and cause them to stumble. »
Greene concluded her message by calling on Christian women to be an “example to girls and young women by displaying actions that our faith believes in and that do not conform to the patterns of this fallen world.”
“Be the light, don’t fall into darkness,” she wrote.
News week contacted Greene’s press office by email Thursday for additional comment.
Her post received mixed reactions on social media, with some saying Greene does not represent all of Christianity and should not tell other women what they should wear.
