Lil Nas as his recent “J Christ” video could be a true act of contrition, rapper and Christian teacher Dee-1 argued.
Lil Nas from many Christians who interpreted it as a “mockery” and “disrespect” to Christianity. Following his release on January 12, the rapper apologized on his Instagram account, insisting that he did not intend to attack Christians.
“I know I really messed up this time. I can act undisturbed all I want, but it definitely took a mental toll on me,” Lil Nas X said. “I’m not an evil demon who’s trying to destroy everyone’s values and stuff like that. That’s not me.”
Although Dee-1 noted that while he would have to see Lil Nas
“We have to see Him in His actions before we believe Him, but I think it’s just as important to show our love to people in the same way we would want Christ to show us love when we express grief or “remorse for our actions that we may have reflected on and said ‘that wasn’t right’ or ‘I could have done better’,” he told Fox News Digital.
More importantly, he noted that it was “very telling” that Lil Nas X’s label, Columbia Records, had no comment regarding the video.
“They didn’t come and apologize. You know what I mean? They allowed that clip to be released. They paid for the clip. I guarantee you they paid for the clip. They paid for marketing and promoting this whole campaign. But they’re not the ones coming out and apologizing if they offended Christians,” Dee-1 said.
He added: “So let’s think about the message that this sends about what the music industry accepts in terms of messages that can be offensive to Christians. And I’m a Christian, but I think the music industry has shown that they don’t do that. I don’t have a problem with that.”

Dee-1 hoped the apology could be a sign for the rapper to “make sense of it all” and move forward.
“That being said, our sins are always forgiven, you know? Every time we go and repent. And of course, we have to be sincere about our repentance. So that’s when God will judge the sincerity. But from where I stood and looking at all the factors of the situation, I wanted to show him and extend the olive branch saying, I see you, and I see the act of contrition and you express that you did not want to offend Christians and showing sadness for that,” he said.
Dee-1 noted that he had both criticized and called out Lil Nas
“These people are watching you play with God,” Dee-1 said in a video Sunday.
