Celebrity tattoo artist Katherine von Drachenberg, better known as Kat Von D, shared details about her conversion to Christianity and how she would prefer that Christians pray for her husband, who is not yet a believer but go to church, instead of criticizing him.
The star of TLC’s ‘LA Ink’ sat down with Allie Beth Stuckey on her “Relative” podcast to talk about his journey following the public announcement of his baptism which shocked and surprised more than one person. A longtime Stuckey listener, the reality TV star revealed that she uses “New Age stuff” like “bandages” and “crutches,” but neither that, nor transcendental meditation, nor Stuckey’s line of books. The self-help books she read could not satiate her appetite. .
“When the lockdowns happened… my husband (Rafael Reyes) just said, ‘Hey, baby, I think we made a mistake.’ You know, I think we got a lot of things wrong,” she recalled in the interview.
“You have to understand at the time…BLM was going strong,” Drachenberg continued. “I was in the middle of it. For example, I lived three doors down from the mayor of Los Angeles, so we had Antifa in our backyard after they threatened to make Molotov cocktails and stuff like that. So we were seeing things in real time, and they were much worse in real life than what (the media) was showing on TV.
She added: “I started to re-evaluate, sort of going down the list of what I’m doing with my life. And that touched part of my spirituality, and that’s when I started to really rethink a lot of things.
Although Kat’s husband has not yet given his life to Jesus Christ, he attends Sunday services with her at a Baptist church near their home in Indiana.
Last month, Drachenberg shared a video of his baptism. Last year, the artist, whose gothic style brought him great popularity, renounced the occult and witchcraft.
Although she grew up with missionary parents, she only recently became a Christian.
“I feel like I’m the best wife and mother I can be now because of the changes I’ve been through,” she said. “There was a deprogramming that took place. Things that I found attractive disgust me.
“I wish I could express how incredible these changes are,” she added.
Despite her change of heart, Kat has kept her “dark” style and her friends, some of whom are not Christians and continue to fight against certain vices. After the video of her baptism went viral, Kat received many comments celebrating her decision to follow Christ. Yet some Christians, she said, were just as cruel in their comments as some nonbelievers.
Kat said she was able to tune out the negativity, but was saddened that her husband had to endure this kind of response from people who claim to represent the God she so desperately wants him to embrace for himself.
“The only person I think about through all of this is my husband, because when we met, we both weren’t Christians. We got married, and then he really helped me “I’m on the same page,” she told Stuckey.
Describing her husband as “very supportive”, Kat added: “We go to church together every Sunday; he always supports me and we pray together. But there is a part of him that is still in question, and after experiencing so much heartache from people, it has taken its toll on my husband. I remember the next morning he said to me, ‘Baby, I don’t want to be part of this.’
Choking back tears, the pop-rock singer said she was trying to be a witness to him. He too is a musician whose lyrics do not correspond to Christianity.
“I try not to get emotional because I’ve worked for years trying to lead by example and share my own stepping stones with him, so I hope that one day he can come to me and say, ‘Hey, guess what.'” “I gave my heart to Jesus. It hasn’t happened yet,” she said.
Seeing these attacks from the Christian community “puts people off,” she said.
Luckily, she added, “Our church is amazing!” »
“I think that’s what I wish for the most. If these people really cared about me or my husband, instead of tearing us apart or tearing him apart, I hope you would just pray for us instead. “It’s hard enough in reality to experience a lot of these things and then just publicly harass or humiliate us,” she added.
