Busoga Diocese Secretary, Canon Patrick Mutalwa, has urged Christians to always remember God in everything they do rather than “allowing ourselves to be pushed away by the world”.
Canon Mutalwa, who was addressing a congregation at St James Church in Jinja town on Monday as Christians ushered in the new year, said “most Christians forget God by focusing more on their affairs” .
“As you love a woman and the child she bore in marriage, so should God and his teachings. There is a man who reads the newspapers every day, but does not know how to read the Bible. Let’s read it and do what it teaches us. Let’s not just focus on our businesses,” he remarked.
Canon Mutalwa added that God should be number one in our homes and businesses.
He also asked Christians to change their attitude in the new year.
“Let’s forget all the bad practices we had in previous years like corruption, bribery and hatred. It’s time to change our minds and our attitudes so that we know what God likes,” he said.
Canon Mutalwa further encouraged Christians to start the new year with new ideas and visions so that they can prosper in 2024.
In Kamuli District, Rev. Anthony Ssemadaali, Chaplain of Kamuli Missionary Hospital and Midwifery School, advised Christians to make 2024 a year of productivity, peace and food security, all seeking God’s blessings and interventions.
Speaking during the New Year Mass at the Kamuli Catholic Parish Church, Father Ssemadaali said “without food security, there is no peace and people should respond to God’s call to work to earn their living.”
“May 2024 be a year of food security, family peace and productivity to merit God’s blessings and providence,” he noted.
Father Ssemadaali advised families to ensure absence of domestic violence which he said breeds poor parenting, leads to loss of productivity and affects the well-being, education and attention of children.
