China (MNN) – Christians in China face many challenges, but they have one less concern than before. Kurt Rovenstine from Bibles for China says rural Christians now have greater access to God’s Word.
Bibles For China has been helping to distribute free Bibles in rural areas of China since 2011. During a trip to local partners, they learned about the progress made so far and the current needs of churches.
“One of the things we’ve started to hear is that in some places the need for large-scale Bible distribution is diminishing,” Rovenstine says.
However, other needs are emerging, including the lack of biblically trained leaders.
Rovenstine says, “There was a request that said, ‘You know, we have all these people with Bibles.
“But we don’t have people with Bibles who know how to read them, interpret them and apply them correctly. »
Local church partners asked Bibles For China to sponsor students at a Bible training center for lay leaders. Young Christians in the faith go through a two-year program where they learn more and continue to grow. However, even if the training center offers them accommodation, students must still pay for their meals and transportation for each term. After careful consideration, the ministry agreed to support approximately 60 students.
“We really feel like this is where God is leading us,” Rovenstine says.
“And it will add depth to the Church and value to the Bibles.”
Rovenstine asks listeners to pray for leaders in training. Christians in China persevere despite constant government surveillance and legal limitations. May students develop spiritual maturity and fill the leadership gaps in the Church.

Rovenstine says, “It’s Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and the courts of Babylon, you know, in the time of exile. It’s simply where they live, and they do their best within that context.
