Forformer representative from Illinois. Adam Kinzinger said Tuesday that the Christians who support the former president Donald Trump do not understand their own religion.
Kinzinger made this comment in a social networks post in which he shared a screenshot of a statement Trump wrote on Truth Social, the former president’s own social platform. Trump wished “crooked Joe Biden” and “deranged Jack Smith” a Merry Christmas, while wishing all “thugs” in the United States to “rot in hell,” a dig at various U.S. lawmakers.

“I’m going to take a risk here: this man is not a Christian,” Kinzinger wrote on social media. “If you are a Christian who supports him, you don’t understand your own religion. Trump is weak, skinny, stinking, victimized, stomach ache, but he is not a Christian and he is not a ‘man of God ‘”.

Kinzinger’s comment is one of several he has made regarding the former president. He was one of 10 Republicans to vote for to accuse Trump following the January 6 riot at the Capitol, and he also worked on the January 6 Committee, which investigated the events of that day and held prime-time public hearings with testimony keys.
The former Illinois lawmaker opted not to run for his House seat in the 2022 midterm elections, ending his 12-year term in Congress. Shortly after his departure, Kinzinger joined CNN as a senior political commentator.

Last month, Kinzinger, who has since moved to Texassaid he would “I love running” against Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), calling him “the most complete crook in politics.” However, he said he would not seek such a candidacy in 2024, when Cruz will campaign for a third term in the Senate.
“I have a young child,” Kinzinger said. “I kind of have to get over the last couple of years. But if there’s a time that comes and the timing is right, yeah, absolutely.”
