Kolkata: Collegiate School of the Scottish Church is expected to open its doors to female students for the first time from January next year.
THE coeducation A section of the 193-year-old school has been installed on the campus at 18 Duff Street, next to Duff Churchon Duff Street. The building where a diocesan nursery school was previously run by the church was restored and became the school’s third campus after its Bidhan Sarani campus and Kestopur campus. It has been decided that a pre-primary and primary (Class I) section with a capacity of 30 students each will start here. It will be affiliated to the Bengal Board with English as the medium of instruction.

School principal Bibhas Sanyal said, “It was a request from the people staying in this area to open our doors to girls as well. Many of them asked us why we are so rigid and why don’t we allow girls to study here. After receiving so many requests, we discussed the matter with the Bishop and under his leadership, we embarked on a new journey to create a new history before celebrating its 200th anniversary.
The school governing body has decided that the doors will be opened for Plus II girls to study in Class IX and Class XII. “It was decided in our internal meeting to allow girls to join after Madhyamik. They will be allowed admission from session 2024 and will be accommodated in our main building on Bidhan Sarani,” Sanyal added.
