SIOUX FALLS, SD (Dakota News Now) – Augustana University is set to host a “Christians Against Christian Nationalism” event on campus Thursday evening.
The evening includes an interview with Holly Hollman, general counsel and associate executive director of the Baptist Joint Committee.
The event will take place at 7 p.m. in the Hamre Hall.
A former Augustana professor spoke out about the event, saying open dialogue and discussion must take place, but safeguards must also be put in place for those who wish to speak out.
“One of the arrangements put in place for the speakers committee is that it is polite and people can express themselves. Part of the reason for this is that they were supposed to discuss how they should ensure that no disruptions occurred. I see none of this has been put in place and therefore we are taking a risk because there are people who are upset that Augie is doing this,” said Tim Sorenson, professor emeritus.
Sorenson encouraged people to attend the event and talk about politics, as young people are becoming more involved.
We contacted Augustana about this event and they told us they would not give an interview or release a statement.
