McKellar has enjoyed a successful career as a performer and book author, most recently bringing her acting talents to Great American Family.
The actress, who stars in the new film “A Royal Date for Christmas,” also had an authentic and public faith journey over the last year and a half, embracing Christianity and sharing his experience.
“I feel so blessed…people have said, ‘Oh, you’re so bold,'” McKellar said of her willingness to discuss her beliefs. “That doesn’t seem bold. I don’t feel like it takes courage or anything. …When you experience something so beautiful, so wonderful, and life-changing, you want everyone to feel it.
McKellar said the roots of faith were embedded in her heart after fellow actress Candace Cameron Bure invited her to a Passion play on April 10, 2022 – an experience that ended up changing her life, as the message of the Gospel permeated his heart.
“It hit me,” she said. “Everything hit me. The Holy Spirit came to me. …It was like a wave of love and understanding had hit me.
Watch McKellar tell his story:
Up until then, McKellar said she always had “a sense of God in one form or another,” but she said her ideas about Christianity were very tinged with negativity and framing presented in the news.
“I have always viewed religion and Christianity as restrictive and limiting, but instead I feel the most amazing freedom,” McKellar said of his faith. “And I was like, I have to share this. I have to tell people the good news.
Before becoming a Christian, she believed that believers were judgmental and caused problems, with these preconceptions clouding her vision.
McKellar continued: “I just haven’t had a chance to see…it’s the most miraculous, amazing, incredible gift in the whole world. I just want people to feel that they are not alone, that there is love for you at all times, and that is such a gift.
The Passion play brought that gift to McKellar, who said Bure also gave him a Bible at the start of his spiritual journey. She described Bure as “amazing” and inspiring, explaining how Bure spent time answering her questions about faith.
One of the most unique facets of McKellar’s journey was his openness in immediately sharing his experience, talking about it to fans in real time as it unfolded.
A year and a half later, she says her faith has had a profound impact on her life. When bad situations arise, McKellar said she now has a “different way of handling” those crises. This year, she is also reading the entire Bible, which she finds deeply enriching.
“I don’t need to understand everything,” she said. “It’s not my burden. I can hand it over to God.
As for McKellar’s acting career, it remains in full force, with the actress currently promoting “A royal date for Christmas“, a film she described as “super fun and very romantic.”
She said she’s excited to be a part of Great American Family and Great American Pure Flix, where she can help “elevate the positive and good side of human nature” through storytelling.
