Danica McKellar loves good stories. The actor and author starred in the sitcom “The Wonder Years” and countless romantic comedies on Hallmark Channel and Great American Family. For years, McKellar rejected the idea of Christianity and faith. But a visit to a friend’s church introduced McKellar to the beautiful story of God and where he belongs.
“In my life, from my childhood, I had been made aware of all the hypocrisy of the different religions of Christianity, used for purposes of evil, power and control throughout history, and this had made me definitely biased. But they’re just people, that doesn’t represent God’s true love for us. McKellar said in a 2022 Instagram post.
“It’s about a relationship with God”: Danica McKellar continues her faith journey
At one point, Danica McKellar wasn’t interested in anything to do with faith. She always struggled to understand how Christianity had been used to abuse and wield power throughout history. She said Christian titles“That was really my kind of awareness of Christianity before.”
But visit a local church with a friend gave him a new perspective on faith. It’s no secret that the Great American Family actor and lead Candace Cameron Bure and McKellar are close friends. Bure invited McKellar to a passion play at his church on Palm Sunday in 2022.
“It hit me like a wave. It was immediate,” McKellar told Christian Headlines. “It was like the Holy Spirit just flooded me.
McKellar shared more about her friend Bure. “Candace was wonderful. After watching the play, I said to myself, “This is what I’ve been looking for my whole life and I didn’t realize it”… And it’s been wonderful. It has been a wonderful gift.
Since that first visit, McKellar has been exploring his new faith. She said: “I discovered the pure part of it, that part which is actually the heart of it. »
McKellar explained, “It’s about your relationship with God, you have a personal relationship with God. And it was like such a revelation.
Throughout her faith journey, she understood how Christianity has been misused throughout history. “They are not authentic Christians. And so, just realizing that opened everything up.
McKellar continues to learn and grow in his faith. “I have been reading the Bible throughout this year. And I’ll be done by the end of the year. I’m on the right track,” she said.
“This is the first time I’ve read the Bible,” the actress continued. “And I had read the Gospels before, but never the Old Testament, and I’m starting from the beginning.” McKellar continued to reflect on Leviticus, which is “a little dry, but that’s OK… It’s actually quite fascinating when you feel like you’re in that world, and you know how to what the materials look like and what the food was like. Either way, it’s pretty amazing.
As she learns more about Christianity, McKellar isn’t afraid to admit that she has a lot to learn. McKellar also plans to re-read the Bible next year. She recognizes that “this is a lot of information” and wants to “soak up more of it”.
